It’s just over a year since GUNDOG ESTATE released our first batch of commercially available wines: a 2008 Shiraz and a 2009 Rosé.
James Halliday assessed both wines for his Australian Wine Companion (2011 edition) and rated the Rose 90 and the Shiraz 92. Here’s what he said about them:
Shiraz 2008. Vivid crimson hue, although not especially deep; particularly fresh and lively, with a silky texture to its spicy red and black fruit flavours; tannin and oak management on the money. The wine can be cellared to 2020.
Rosé 2009. Clear pink; made from 100% estate-grown cabernet sauvignon; attractive dry style matching a wide array of foods; well made.
James Halliday compliments us further by rating GUNDOG ESTATE as a Four Star Winery in his Wine Companion. This is a very flattering entry level for such a new winery.
