Without compromising regional and varietal identity, or quality, in the Hunter’s Semillon we seek to deliver a contemporary style, offering greater levels of approachability and flavour intensity while young. The winemaking approach is effectively the same as ‘The Chase,’ which means we arrive at this alternative style largely through fruit / vineyard selection. Year to year, contributing blocks are usually grown over heavier soils, offering greater richness of flavour and phenolic structure. The 2017 release is produced from fruit grown at the Tinkler’s School Block in central Pokolbin. We picked at a little over 11 Baume, just on flavour ripeness, and enjoyed great natural balance from this parcel. Relative to ‘The Chase,’ the 2017 Hunter’s Semillon offers greater openness of style, and a slightly softer delivery on the palate, with acidity providing a more subtle framework to the generous flavours on offer.
